Description of Offerings / Artist Statement

Deb Mackie’s interest in leather began with a Tandy Leather “half-pint” saddle kit given to her by her grandmother for her 12th birthday. Her grandmother, an accomplished leather crafter, lent Deb her some of her tools to finish the kit, and the journey began. Deb eventually began creating her own patterns and designs. Although she may repeat a design, no two are exactly alike and may be considered unique.

Deb also teaches workshops in leather crafting in both full and miniature scale. Her other artistic endeavors include dollmaking, diorama building, needle felting, 1:12 scale miniatures and miniature gardening.

Deb grew up in rural Upstate New York and holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Rochester Institute of Technology. She has lived in Cecil county for over 20 years, and currently resides on a small farm in Elkton, Maryland.
